Oslo Weather is certainly not in tune with the city’s northern European location; thanks to the Gulf Stream that brings temperate waters from the Gulf of Mexico, Oslo weather is definitely what one would expect from an area in the same latitude. While winters in the capital of Denmark are indeed cold and laced with an abundance of snow, summers are surprisingly mild and perfect for outdoor activities, crashing down notions that Oslo is only a winter city.
Understandably, Oslo Weather is at its coldest during the winter season, often leaning towards harsh conditions. This is most apparent during January, by far the coldest month of the year, when daytime temperatures hover just above freezing point, taking a nose dive during the night when they dip to 5°C / 23°F or even further.
Snow begins to cover Oslo in its white blanker as early as November, accumulating more from January through March. In a bygone era, before the onslaught of global warming, the Oslofjord would freeze over; however, this has become some sort of a rare occurrence. During recent years, the habitants of Oslo have to make do with watching only the innermost parts of the great fjord succumb to the powers of nature.
Strange as it may sound to those unaccustomed to the profuse enticements of weather in Oslo, the emergence of the snowy season brings a certain rejuvenation to the city: from one hand the locals avail the slightest of opportunities to indulge their passion for ice skating at various outdoor venues and on frozen lakes in some parks, and on the other the city experiences a sudden influx of skiing enthusiasts that flog to the nearby Tryvann Vinterpark ski resort.
By the time April rolls in, frost has disappeared; springtime temperatures remain rather chilly, usually hovering around 10°C / 50°F, rising as high as 15°C / 59°F towards the end of the month and most specifically during the sunniest days.
Summer is long and sunny, with temperatures often approaching 30°C / 86°F. Although precipitation is slightly more pronounced during the summer season, it rarely managed to throw a spanner in the works; Oslo Weather during summer remains pleasant throughout, allowing locals and visitors to join in the many outdoors activities available throughout the city.
